About Us

In 1983 our managing director Charlie Hunter set out to develop his business goals when he established Minesite Maintenance. In the beginning he worked alone as a boilermaker in the Sons of Gwalia gold mine, in Leonora, but over time he employed other boilermakers, fitters and any other trades that were required by the local mines at the time, for their maintenance and construction. During this time he purchased his first crane, an 18 ton Franna, which he took down to the Margaret River area, working as a Crane Operator on the Scott River Mineral Sands mine for BHP Billiton. He gained a strong reputation for offering a quality service and as such he expanded into other areas.

In 1997 Charlie took himself and his Franna up to the newly proposed Murrin-Murrin nickel mine and as a sign of his determination he sat outside the gates everyday until construction began, trying to secure work for Minesite Maintenance and himself. He succeeded and Minesite Maintenance successfully worked on the mine throughout its construction. In 2004 Minesite Maintenance also provided cranes, operators and supervisors for the construction of BHP Billiton’s Ravensthorpe nickel mine. Throughout this time Charlie was investing in new cranes and workers in order to expand his business and meet his clients’ requirements.

In 2006 Minesite Maintenance began trading as Boddington Crane Hire, coinciding with the proposed development of the Boddington gold mine. We secured a contract with AKCMR in October 2006 and were commissioned to build the campsite for the expansion of the mine. We supplied all the labour and machinery required for the camp and all works were completed on time and with no incidents. We completed our work at the Boddington site in May 2009. Our efficient and quality work during this time allowed us to develop a strong reputation, making Boddington Crane Hire a recognized name within the industry.

In October 2008 Boddington Crane Hire was hired by Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd and John Holland Pty Ltd for the development of the civil construction site at the Pluto LNG gas mine in Karratha. We supplied all the necessary equipment and staff, completing our part of the development in 2010 with no incidents and a 100% safety record.

We also worked with MacMahon Contractors on the BHP Billiton hub development at Mount Newman and the Iron Ore development at Cape Preston in Karratha with BGC and Arrcon. As well as supplying cranage and labour requirements for Decmil, CBI, Kentz and many others during this period in our companies history.

Since 2010 Boddington Crane Hire has undergone a restructuring, with our main focus now being on the dry hiring of lifting equipment. We supply Cranes, Reach Stackers, Forklifts and Telehandlers of various sizes and specifications to all sections of Australian Industry.
