OUR HISTORY
Privately owned and operated in Western Australia, Boddingtons Hire first began in 1983 and was established as Minesite Maintenance Pty Ltd by Charlie Hunter.
Charlie based the business in Leonora and in the beginning worked alone as a boilermaker on the Sons of Gwalia gold mine.
Over time the business employed other boilermakers, fitters and any other trades that were required by the local mines for their maintenance and construction.
This period laid the foundations of what the current day business is built upon. Values of working hard, always insisting on a quality job and being
open and honest with all your customers and suppliers were values instilled in Charlie at an early age and still shine through in the business today.
It was during these years in Leonora, Charlie purchased his first crane, a 12 tonne Franna which he used to broaden his offerings to his clients.
This first crane was to become the first of many as the business took a strong direction towards crane hire.
Throughout the 80’s and 90’s the business continued to offer services in the Goldfields, often growing and shrinking in size along with the general industry and economy of the time.
In the early 2000’s, Charlie relocated the business to Rockingham to be closer to his family.
The business opened a depot in Port Kennedy (where it still is today) and offered crane hire to the booming housing industry as well as local industry in the area.
Always with an eye for the mining industry he was most familiar with, Charlie won a contract to supply cranes, operators, and labour to the construction of the BHP Ravensthorpe Nickel project.
This contract required a number of rough terrain cranes which have become a regular feature of the business today.
Around the same time the business grew into the Boddington region (hence the current day name) with the development of the Newmont Boddington Gold Mine in 2006.
Other projects quickly followed this one including all labour and cranes required for Leighton/ John Holland scope of works on Woodside Pluto Train 1 in 2008 and the BHP Newman Hub development in 2009.
Since 2010 the company underwent a restructuring to become the specialist dry hire equipment company it is today.
In 2013 Charlies’ son Tom, joined the business from a background in corporate accounting and is the General Manager today. Still working closely with Charlie.
